DESCRIPTION:ASCA was a major sponsor of the Standards Australia event that welcomed over 40 delegates from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Smart Cities committee in Sydney this week for a week-long plenary. DESCRIPTION:In June\, ASCA members and the City of Greater Geelong’s Smart City Team came together for an in-person study tour\, workshop and networking event. \nThe event was broken into three parts\, part one was the walking tour around Greater Geelong\, part two was the focussed workshop and part three was a relaxing networking event. \nOn the day: \nThe walking tour gave a chance to visit some of the key locations where intelligent technologies and innovations are making a difference in Geelong. The Geelong Smart City team will offer their key learnings\, insights and answers questions. \nGeelong’s journey to becoming an innovative\, future-focussed city formally began with the adoption of the Smart City Strategic Framework in 2021 and since then has received numerous awards and accolades including International Smart City of the Year at the World Smart City Expo in Korea. \nThe walking tour was followed by a focussed workshop to explore and discuss the role of advanced CCTV and analytics in a Smart City\, and the important privacy and ethical considerations this raises. This involved case studies\, live footage demonstrations and an interactive discussion including; \n\n\nChallenges of implementation \n\n\nDevice management \n\n\nCCTV\, AI/Machine Learning and the art of the possible \n\n\nData\, ethics\, privacy and responsible AI \n\n\nIn the afternoon there was an optional networking event hosted by the City of Greater Geelong and ASCA where light refreshments were provided.

SUMMARY:ASCA May Webinar: Dynamic Data Art - Three Corners of the City
DESCRIPTION:The City of Casey and Swinburne University of Technology and Living Lab recently collaborated to deliver “Three Corners of the City”\, a dynamic data art project that brings city movement data alive for the community. The project was recently awarded the ‘Best in Category – Digital Design’ at the Victorian Premier’s Design Awards in 2022. \nThree Corners of the City is a real-time interactive data visualisation that connects three local communities in Melbourne across place and across time. Live data touchpoints record people walking 24 hours a day\, 7 days a week\, in three communities in an interconnecting flow of everyday life\, breathing life and form into dynamically evolving motion graphics. The project engages citizens with smart city data visualised in aesthetically pleasing and tangible ways. The visualisation is publicly exhibited on a large-scale interactive media wall in the foyer of the award-winning Bunjil Place community hub. \nDuring this webinar\, we learnt about how this award winning project came together to help bring the smart data to life. \nThe webinar presenters were: \nJames Berrett – Digital Designer and Media Artist (School of Design and Architecture) \nProfessor Sonja Pedell – Project Manager (Self and Design Living Lab) \nProfessor Simone Taffe – Communication Designer (Swinburne Smart Cities Research Institute)

With the adoption of a Smart City Strategic Framework in 2021 the level of sophistication has increased\, and the city is getting smarter with its smart technology and Data. With over 12 years’ of experience in Local Government in primarily Economic Development and Place Making roles\, his move to Maribyrnong in late 2020 was his first foray into Smart Communities and has provided an opportunity integrate the different disciplines. Bruce has been on the ASCA board since January 2022 and is the current President. \nChris Laing: Chris is the Smart City Project Officer for Maribyrnong City Council. Having commenced the role in 2019\, Chris has been involved in the extensive roll out of technology for the ‘Smart Cities for Social Cohesion’ project around the Footscray CBD area. He has an ongoing role to project manage the Smart City program and is passionate about ensuring data and technology are used meaningfully by the organisation.

SUMMARY:Creating a Smart City Framework to Assess\, Procure and Deploy Projects
DESCRIPTION:Before making any decisions on the direction of it’s Smart City Program\, Glenelg Shire Council in Southwest Victoria created a Smart City Framework.
